Are You Happy? (A Simple Flowchart)

Areyouhappy_a2_web_1024-600x848

So I was wandering around the internet when I stumbled upon this hilarious and unique flow chart.

As you can see, this is not your office meeting’s typical graph of sales or customer satisfaction, but rather a chart that very bluntly and simply defines what it means to be happy.

While obviously there are different ways of explaining happiness to someone, both in complex and simplistic terms, sometimes you just need to boil things down to the way it simply is and cut out all the crap that gets in the way

And while many people might say that, “happiness really isn’t as simple as that, it is very complex and has a lot of biological and physical requirements in order for it to occur”. If you are one of these people let me first say that A) you are right from a scientific standpoint and B) go to the part of the chart where it says “Do you want to be happy?” and truthfully answer it. Chances are if you have to over think something as simple as feeling happy, you simply are not

So instead of doing what most websites would do and over analyze something as simple and beautiful as this chart I am going to over a few sentences of advice on how best to use it and then leave it to you guys to find the answer for yourself and report back to me via email or a comment down below why you are or are not happy right now

When using a chart like this, be as honest as possible with yourself. The idea isn’t to pick about every minuscule portion of your life and determine every little thing that makes you happy or not, it is meant to give you some concise ideas as to what you can do to stay happy or be happy. So don’t make this exercise into something more than it is, just be honest with every answer and at the end be sure to ask yourself what you would really need to do in order to keep things the same, or change them up in order to maintain a happy lifestyle. You know exactly what it takes to make you happy, so just bite the bullet, swallow your pride, take action and take control of the way you feel instead of feeling like a victim of your circumstances

Happiness depends upon ourselves.
Aristotle

Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
Abraham Lincoln

If only we’d stop trying to be happy we could have a pretty good time.

You know how people say that in order to do something important in your life, often times you have to push yourself out of your “comfort” zone, or act out of character, or be more spontaneous?

While it is easy for someone who naturally likes to get naked at the drop of the dime and make an impromptu speech at a public gathering, or write an Emmy winning screenplay, most people are not blessed with this ability

And it’s this very ability that can lead you to be more attractive, interesting, fun, exciting, admired, and a load of other good terms that I am too lazy to type out

And while many people simply are more conservative and laid back, there are moments in a person’s life when they simply have to act out of character in order to grow as a human being

If in these moments you decide to cower in the corner like a little scared bunny rabbit, your character dies a little bit inside (not to mention if I see it I will call you out 😉 )

Here is a short guide on how to act a bit more spontaneous, act out of character, and push your limits in order to ultimately grow and succeed in any area of your life

A Selection of Amazing Badass Motivational…Poems?

So I was going to create a post describing the intricacies of master level martial arts and how kicking someone in the head or learning how to break ice blocks with your bare hands can be very spiritual and motivational, but I didn’t finish it in time so I decided to talk about poetry

Now don’t get the pitchforks and torches yet, I am not here to tell you how you are a snowflake and everything is going to be okay through some serenade of words

I found a selection of poems that definitely have a bit of kick to them and certainly will offer you some great insight into your life and the various ups and downs that come with it (I know I did)

SO without further ado, here are a few poems that may not be Robert Frost with their craftsmanship (except for 1 😉 ), but they have messages that are stronger than your typical haiku

4 Reasons to Act More Like a 5 Year Old

Who doesn’t love kids?

They are carefree, feel like they can take on the world, always have a smile on their face, and generally just seem to be enjoying everything that life hands them (with the occasional temper tantrum)

Why are kids so damned infatuating?

They seem to be living the dream lifestyle, and we all seem to be chasing the carrot dangled at the stick

I recently finished watching the movie, “Big” with Tom Hanks and had an epiphany

Kids DO have it better than we do

But its not the whining and neediness that I admire, it’s the carefree and happy lifestyle that they all seem to live

What I realized is that if everyone in the world acted a bit more like a kid, the world would be a much better place

Here are four reasons to unbox your Barbies or Gijoes, so to speak, and let loose like your 5 year old a bit more

The Story of the Mexican Fisherman

I stumbled across this story while I was cleaning up the hurricane aftermath that is my jumbled writings and saved archives

After I reread it, I knew that I had to post it up

This is the story of an American business man and a Mexican fisherman that happen to cross paths. While the story has no official author or even verification for if it even took place at all, ultimately that’s meaningless

The story has an amazing message that it gets across very effectively, and will really resonate with you if you ever found yourself reconsidering the line of work you’re in, what your goals are, and what happiness really means to you

I highly recommend putting down the TV remote, stop stalking people on Facebook, or rereading the same office memo for the 8th time and spend a minute giving this story your full attention

Be sure to let me know what this story means to you in the comments or an email

The Mexican Fisherman

The American investment banker was at the pier of a
small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with
just one fisherman docked.

Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna.
The American complimented the Mexican on the quality
of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “Only a little while.”

The American then asked, “Why didn’t you stay out longer
and catch more fish?”

The Mexican said, “With this I have more than enough to support my family’s needs.”

The American then asked, “But what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life.”

The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing; and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat: With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats. Eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the
processor; eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then Los Angeles and eventually New York where you will run your ever-expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15 to 20 years.”

“But what then?” asked the Mexican.

The American laughed and said that’s the best part. “When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions.”

“Millions?…Then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”
